The East Village Neighborhood

  North:

West:
2000W (Damen)
  East:
1600W (Ashland)
  South:
500N (Grand)

The East Village neighborhood is located about two miles from the Loop. The area is from Ashland on the East to Damen on the West and Division on the North to Grand on the South. Wicker Park is located just to the north and Ukrainian Village is just west of East Village.

The area is fast become a favorite neighborhood because of its neighborhood feel and its location. Getting downtown is a short L or bus ride while the neighborhood is seeing more commercial development along Division, Chicago and Damen. It is also close to Wicker Park without having Wicker Park prices although the prices are rising fast.

When the neighborhood was first developed in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s there many cottages and bungalows that made up the single-family stock. There was also a number of 2-4 flats built. Because of the increase in development in East Village and the number of homes being torn down to make way for new condos and Single-family homes the city was pressured from Neighborhood Groups and Historic Preservation Groups to declare part of East Village a historic landmark. The designation is sure to slow the amount and type of new development that will be allowed.
