On December 31 2009 Illinois Governor Quinn signed into law amendments to the Real Estate License Act of 2000. The new focus of the amendments was consumer protection and increased professional competence of Real Estate licensees. Moving forward Illinois will have new license classification and education requirements for both new and existing licensees.

A study by DePaul University’s Institute for Housing Studies found that $3 billion of multi-family property mortgages already are in foreclosure, affecting more than 32,000 rental units in Cook County. This includes both multi unit 2, 3 & 4 Flats as well as multi-family 5+ units.

Chicago Real Estate – Downtown Chicago condo’s remain a buyers market with excess inventory that still needs to be absorbed. Sales volume of downtown condominiums did inch higher however in the previous quarter as developers continued to cut prices to bring in buyers.
